September 30th is a day to honour the children who never returned home, the Residential School Survivors, their families and communities, and the intergenerational impacts of residential schools.
Each year, September 30 marks the National Day for Truth and Reconcilation. The day honours the children who never returned home and the Residential School Survivors, their families and their respected communities.
The Ceremony will begin at 10am with a flag raising, prayer and speeches. At 11am, the Truth & Reconciliation Walk will depart from City Hall.
Everyone welcome and encouraged to wear orange. 'Every Child Matters' t-shirts will be available for purchase.
Orange Shirt Day is an Indigenous-led grassroots commemorative day intended to raise awareness of the individual, family and community inter-generational impacts of residential schools, and to promote the concept of 'Every Child Matters' incorporating Reconciliation and forging a pathway forward.
