An endurance race with a twist - strategy, fuel management, and teamwork will all matter here.

The Lone Wolf is a trail running challenge in Fernie, BC.

WELCOME TO THE DEN
The popular Lone Wolf Backyard Ultra returns for 2024. With a few changes. Situated at the beautiful Elk Valley Nordic Centre, offering a great place to start, finish and (for all but one), DNF. A simple aid station, plus washrooms are available. With plenty of space to set up a tent and hunker down for a great day(s) in the Den.

WHAT IS A BACKYARD ULTRA?
A simple, fun, looped race. But with a catch. Racers start together on the hour as a pack, needing to finish the loop within the hour. As when the next hour strikes, the race starts again, in the opposite direction. The goal? To complete as many loops as you can.

THE LONE WOLF
This Backyard Ultra (aka Last Racer Standing), takes place on a beautiful, single track 6.64km washing-machine style loop, with 198m of vert/descent. Yes, this is harder than pretty much all other Backyard Ultras, so pacing and tactics will play a huge part as the day goes on and the trail catches up with you.

WOLVES + COYOTES
Unlike other Last Racer Standing formats, The Lone Wolf is broken into Solo (Lone Wolf) or Teams (Coyotes). The team options makes it a super fun, all-inclusive race, giving grassroots runners and kids the opportunity to toe the line (as many times as they can).

Lap times, gender and age don’t come into play, just the greatest number of laps win. With only one outright winner (The Lone Wolf), there’s no second place, just a big ol’ DNF for most of you.

So, think you can outrun the pack and become The Lone Wolf?
