A special end-of-season event that spreads from Elk Valley Nordic Centre to Fernie Alpine Resort and back again.

Looking for a challenge? This is the one, a long one but very casual – unless you don’t want it to be casual, and then by all means attack the course like Ragnar Lothbrok fueled up on mead! A ride on the Deer chair is included! Prizes for best Viking-themed costume.

Race Route

Starting from the warming hut at the Elk Valley Nordic Centre, complete either the full 50 km (2 loops to the ski hill trails and back) or a single loop of 25 km. Skiers may use classic or skate skis. The course will take you through the Fernie Provincial Park and onto Fernie Alpine Resort, ascending the Deer Chair, and traversing down to Fernie Alpine Resort's XC Trails. Skiers then complete a full loop out to Scandia trail before making the return leg back to the hut.

Where and when is this?

This year the event takes place on Saturday morning March 23 or March 24 (TBC!), 2024 at the Elk Valley Nordic Centre located next to the Mt Fernie Provincial Park.

More details coming soon.

Where can I rent Cross-country skis?

Cross-country skis can be hired from Gearhub Sports in Fernie, and at Sports Alpine Rental up at the Fernie Alpine Resort.
