Fernie's largest park, James White Park (formerly known as Mountview Park) has all of the features you would expect from a municipal park - large open areas, ball fields, tennis courts, disc golf course - and yet there is still space to find peace and solitude.
There are four tennis courts in James White Park - so head on down and get your game back into shape! Free to use when not in use by the Fernie Tennis Club.
Available for a good ol' family game of baseball, James White Park is home to two ball diamonds - one large ball diamond and one small ball diamond.
The James White Park is also home to the Lizard Range Disc Golf Course, free to play as often as you like.
Following the Elk River and passing through the James White Park is the Montview Hiking Trail. A trail which connects to a larger network of recreation trails.
In the summer months, the Montview Trail is used by mountain bikers, cyclists, hikers, joggers and dog walkers. Please keep your head up and share the trail. In the winter months, the trail is used by cross-country skiers and snowshoers as an access route to and from the community.
Free parking is available on either of the two entrances to the park and there are a couple of outhouses within the park.
