The famous Elk River in Fernie, British Columbia, is situated in the East Kootenays of the Canadian Rockies and this is where Kootenay Fly Shop & Guiding was established in 1995 to offer anglers a full service fly-fishing shop and British Columbia Guide Service for some of the best fly-fishing waters in North America. Experience fishing of a lifetime in Fernie, British Columbia, Canada, where the last strong remaining populations of Wild West Slope Cutthroat Trout in North America can be found in our rivers. Pursue Cutthroat Trout on the dry as well as fishing for huge Bull Trout on the Elk River. In the 1930's the Elk Valley was known as the Serengetti of North America and today, still has the densest population of non-coastal grizzly bears, black bears, elk, mountain goats, bighorn sheep, wolves, moose and whitetail deer. The Elk River is short listed to become one of British Columbia's Heritage Rivers and as such, shall obtain a higher profile within the valley and province to protect and maintain the beauty and wildlife it supports. The last wild remaining populations of pure strain West Slope Cutthroat Trout in North America are found in the Elk River.
