Fernie Alpine Resort
One of North America’s Best Snow Destinations
Size Does Matter. Locals wear dark blue t-shirts that simply state in white block letters either “old side” or “new side”, a statement of preference in skiing the mountain. That you need to “pick” a side says more about the size of Fernie than making a choice between the original or the expansion.
Fernie boasts over 1,000 hectares (2,500 acres) of skiing on named trails and bowls across a wide swath of the Lizard Range. The terrain varies from long, gentle beginner and intermediate runs to hair-raising double black diamonds more often seen in Warren Miller movies than in person. From massive alpine bowls to narrow rock chutes, to open glades to impeccable groomers, Fernie presents every skier with a challenge.
Legendary Powder is no idle boast. During the 2007-8 season, the ski area received over 11 metres (36 feet) of snow. Fernie logged measurable snowfall with over 70 mornings of 10 cm (4 inches) or more. That’s the snow of Legends!
